Am I on the right track? Coder turned FX algo rookie (MT4 EAs in MQL).
A month ago, an FX-trading friend pinged me to look at some MQL code and make a tweak. I was surprised at how straightforward MQL was, and how robust it was (even if the documentation could be better). Fast forward to today and I’ve written a few simple EAs, and recently discovered trend indicators (MAs and such). Like everyone else I thought “wow! I can just write an always-on Robot that continuously opens / closes orders that ride the trend and makes money forever!” 10 backtests later : “Okay there’s some false trend following here… i can just tweak the logic so when an order loses money, the next order should go against the trend. Then, MONEY!!” 2 days later: “Okay need to do more here. whats this RSI indicator thing? Let me dabble with that, oh wait, whats this ADX indicator? MFE and MAE look important… I can use all these tools to churn out a master robot that will print money! This is the point I am at now. Should i continue down this path? Or am I doomed to fail (but learn a lot)?
